Healthy Eating

Deanwell School is part of the Free Healthy School Lunches Programme – Ka Ora, Ka Ako. All students, every day,  will receive a healthy lunch free of charge. Students can bring with them a packed morning tea if they wish. We encourage families to pack healthy food choices to sustain children’s energy levels whilst they are learning. Deanwell School embraces the ‘Project Energize‘ philosophy of healthy eating & physical activity program which follows the motto ‘Eat Healthy, Be Active, Have Fun’.

Project Energize is funded by the Waikato District Health Board. Energize staff are available to help schools with a whole range of programmes and projects that encourage healthy eating and physical activity. For example:

  • Help promote healthy eating
  • Provide information on healthier food choices for lunches and snacks
  • Assist teachers in providing varied and quality daily exercise activities
  • Encourage children to choose more active play options at home

The programme is tailored to each school. Working with Energize, schools develop their own plan in consultation with the children, teachers, parents and wider school community.
